AUS-MEAT is a not-for-profit company that was formed through a joint venture between Meat & Livestock Australia and the Australian Meat Processor Corporation on behalf of the Australian red meat industry. The company implements processes and procedures to ensure that Australian red meat products meet the requirements of domestic and export customers.
Bringing accuracy to red meat descriptions
AUS-MEAT manages the ‘AUS-MEAT Language’ which is a common language using objective descriptions to describe red meat products accurately. This language is used across the Australian meat industry and allows farmers, meat processers and wholesalers to accurately identify and order meat products.
Changes to the language occur through a consultative process with industry stakeholders, with final approval and implementation coming from the Australian Meat Industry Language and Standards Committee (AMILSC).
Setting national accreditation standards
AUS-MEAT also sets and manages standards to ensure red meat processor quality systems are independently examined and cover quality assurance procedures across the supply chain. From handling, storage, processing and packaging through to labelling and the description of meat products.
It guarantees that meat products are produced and monitored by trained staff. Accreditation is aligned with internationally recognised quality management principles and best practice methods.
